…but abandoning my principles for membership in a group where my presence was valued at no more than a shrug when I informed the group, just shows that to do otherwise would have been forsaking my core values for indifference. Taking a stand doesn’t mean forcing your opinions on others, but it mostly assuredly does mean that personal values are greater than the indifference of an group. To some this will seem to over-the-top but it’s fundamentally important. It’s the difference between, “You can’t say that!” and “You can’t say that to me.” and ensuring that they never have the chance again.
